Brief: Urbanization

By 2050, over six billion people will live in metropolitan centres. With an expected two thirds of the planet living in cities, urban culture will become an even bigger driver of global trends and current events.
As global citizens become increasingly digitally connected, the idea of one world, in real time becomes valid. Worldwide style, fashion and entertainment trends become accessible to much of the planet, and emerging nations become style leaders with brands of their own.
Younger urbanites approach life with tolerance, understanding and acceptance. Issues that once were hot-button become dull as more open-minded young people come of age in the Metropolis. What does it take to get attention nowadays? Big urban centres have always been hotbeds of creativity, individual expression, diversity and inspiration, but as more people move into cities, sustainability and social issues remain at the forefront of urban life.
We're looking for imagery inspired by the common consciousness of urban dwellers but it's also important to consider the personality of the City itself, the parts that define urban. Themes of individuality, diversity, sustainability, and every day life would be a great place to start, but don't forget skylines, architecture, city details and reality on the streets.
Entries for Urbanization will be accepted May 13 - June 30, 2011. Winners will be announced in the second week of July.
