The results of this year’s Gunn Report are in, and suggest that creativity in the UK ad industry is alive and well, as UK agencies top both the Commercials and Print tables, and beat the USA to top the Countries table for the first time in eight years.

The report, which combines the winners’ lists from the most important global award shows to reveal the ads that have won the most each year, saw Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO’s noitulovE spot for Guinness, directed by Daniel Kleinman, take the top spot in the Commercials table. The ad beat Fallon London’s Sony Balls spot and George Patterson Y&R Melbourne’s Big Ad for Carlton Draught Beer, which came second and third respectively.

In Print, DDB London’s Calendar campaign for Harvey Nichols, shown above, took the top spot, followed by JWT Shanghai’s Nike Run Free Road campaign and JWT London's Golden Wonder Golden Skins Crisps campaign.

DDB London also triumphed in the Agencies table, moving up from its position in fourth place last year to take the number one spot, and scoring well in both print and tv work. The second most awarded agency this year was TBWAParis, with Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO, Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Dentsu coming equal third.

The most awarded production company this year is MJZ, who scored big for the Sony Bravia Balls spot, directed by Nicolai Fuglsig, alongside other high-ranked campaigns for brands including 3 Mobile, adidas, Coca-Cola, Gap, Miller, Skittles and Stella Artois.

The top director, however, remains the same as last year, as Thai director Thanonchai Sornsrivichai once again walks off with the honour. However, Frank Budgen also has reason to celebrate once again this year – he may only have come sixth on the table but he’s the only director to have appeared in the Gunn Report Director’s table in all eight years since the Report began.

The shows that are used to compile the Gunn Report remain, as ever, shrouded in mystery, ostensibly so as not to offend any award organisers whose events are deemed irrelevant. What is revealed is that the list of shows that are included is extensive, and includes the top 36 shows in the world for TV and cinema, and the top 22 for print.
