From a 1996 episode of David Letterman's Late Show: is this where Fallon got the idea for Sony Balls? Please don't let it be true...

If it's true, that's a pity.

Oh, I don't know. Design, or more specifically conceptual ideas, are a product of our lives, our frames of reference, our conscious and sub-conscious minds. Without those frames of reference (for the designer and the audience) the design would almost be meaningless. It doesn't take a designer or director to release a ton of rubber balls down a hill, just someone with a healthy curiosity.

I think in our media saturated world we're beyond originality. I think where the originality lies is in the interpretation. If Fallon has reinterpreted that particular episode of the David Letterman show, then so be it. What a beautiful reinterpretation.

If he didn't see the show, then it's a case of great minds think a like!

Interesting that the video for the original of 'Heartbeats, by The Knife, also starts with the theme of 'traveling down a road/hill'. Theres even some coloured balls floating in the sky
