Stand Me Up; Turn Me On

In last year's Candlelight Competition, lighting company Mathmos, in collaboration with 100% East and Metropolitan Works, invited designers to create ideas for a Mathmos product on the theme of candlelight. Winner Richard Lawson's idea has now gone into production as the 9 Volts Lamp.
The lamp mirrors the form of its power source, a standard 9 volt battery, which it simply clips on to. Stand it up and it lights up; lie it down and it switches off. Each lamp comes with a Duracell battery promising 70 hours of light. Price: £13.

wow. a lamp the size of a postage stamp, emitting a coloured light so useless it would fail to sufficently illuminate a hamsters cage for a full 70 hours. another triumph for design.
