Crunchy Nut Cornflakes ambient campaign, agency: JWT London, art director: Mark Norcutt, copywriter: Laurence Quinn, illustrator: Jon Hicks, photographer: Mike Russell
JWT London has created this unusual ambient campaign for Crunchy Nut Cornflakes. In an attempt to tempt customers to keep eating the cereal in autumn (sales traditionally drop off over the winter months as people switch to hot breakfasts), pavement artist Jon Hicks drew Kellogg's bowls around London, before sweeping autumn leaves into them to emulate the cornflakes. Click through to see more images of Hicks making the drawings.

THAT IS SO COOL

This is nothing more than Urban Spam. Desperate tactics to hit us with marketing messages where they're not wanted. CR should not support this activity.

wonderful visual feast. so clever

...thereby forcing parents with children in pushchairs onto the road. Thanks JWT!
And the message? Tastes like eating a bowl of leaves? Double genius.

This is a case of Creative over Connection - expressing a creative idea in a [debatable] form of "creative media" vs any meaningful brand/product connection with the consumer.
I don't usually want to eat cereal while I'm outside in the park, and also I don't like to associate my dry cereal flakes with dry tree leaves.

What is wrong with everyone? At least these ads make you smile. A rare commodity in these days of (credit) crunch (sorry for the pun..).

At the distinct risk of over-thinking this and taking it a bit too seriously - I can't help feeling that the original concept is a bit forced. Sales decline in winter so we'll use fallen leaves to represent corn flakes. Surely there's a better idea out there.

I would much rather see creative 'ambient' advertising like this on my way to work than bland, in your face and overly huge billboards all the time.
To be fair if I saw this on the pavement I would just think it was a piece of art, not really an advert. I'd think it was just the artist's choice, that perhaps the dude likes Crunchy Nut cornflakes :-)

I think some of your comments above are so far off the mark. I can't understand some people and their desire to criticise anything for the most irrelevant or intricate fault.
To those of you, including Piers Fawkes, Parent + Child and Jennifer, grow up! Either you're jealous of Jon Hicks' talent or you're plain spiteful. As Mr Arteest said, I'd much prefer to see this artistic method of advertising than a typical billboard thought up by some marketing suits...
It really annoys me how ignorant and unappreciative people are at times.

Ach! Get the pokers from out of your arses and have a laugh - It's (a Cruncy Nut) Christmas!

Jennifer...
your comment about not wanting to eat cereal in the park - what? I don't want to put aftershave on at a bus stop or buy big box powders while driving down a dual carriage way but it doesn't stop people advertising in these places. It is called brand awareness.
The only criticism I could level is that he 'aint no Justin Beever - http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm but good work all the same

ah, please, cranky people! first, CREATIVE review. that is what this site/magazine is all about, isn't? and you need to be to thick to associate your cereal bowl so literally to a bowl of leaves... terrible comments of people that were supposed to be themselves thinking out of the box. congratulations to the creative team responsible! it is just genial!

Creative yet highly self-indulgent. The amount of people this would reach whilst still looking acceptable, is laughable.

Wow, the comments for this are completely over the top. Stop giving harsh unnecessary criticism, why can’t you simply appreciate and just let be, a nice piece of work, even if it is done purely to for advertisement. It’s a really imaginative idea, well done.
