Set to be the Alan Sugar of the design world, Philippe Starck is seeking applicants for a new BBC Two show, School of Design. (NB: This image has nothing to do with the programme, don't worry)
BBC Two and Philippe Starck are looking for candidates to take part in a new six-part Apprentice-style TV series, School of Design. It's premise is to discover new British design talent and ten designers will be chosen to live and work in Paris for two months, alongside the illustrious French designer. The selection will be then whittled down to one lucky winner who will earn a contract at Starck's studio. Those wishing to apply should fill out the online application form here and be prepared to submit two drawings by the end of August. The series is scheduled to air in January of next year.

He has such nice twinkly eyes. Doesn't look mean enough for reality TV.

He's sort of passe now, which is probably why he's resorting to reality tv. His heyday was really in the mid 90's

Passe? Are you serious? Have you not been following his talks around the world? If anything, Philippe Starck has become even more iconic as he takes a much needed stance on what is good design. It is this idealism which has helped him breakaway from the pack in another most creative way showing us all once again what an original thinker is like.

Idealism? Are you serious? Have you not been following his talks around the world? If anything, Philippe Starck is the most bigoted designer in history proclaiming to be ashamed of his work as a designer and that it is worth nothing AFTER making milions out of it....
Seriously, I quite like his talks very entertaining and informative, but idealism - You must be joking!

Ehrm,
After popstars, models now designers are in a reality show? TV makers haven't got any more ideas? Whats next?
Housewifes?
And judging from the comment " vous etes Fired" you are only interested in putting down people on public television instead of having them learn something.
SO its not about design and design practice but having a person of "authority", if you wanna call starck that, make a fool of a "subortinate" on TV.
Never mind. I guess there are enough people stupid enough to join you on this show and prostitute themselves. Besides that..winning and having a 6 month apprenticeship and working for a joke salary? No thanks.

i desagree.what u say is based on nothing else than a subjective opinion about others intetions.good or bad.
and plus..u can be sure no one will ever call u to work with nobody ;) nobody wants nor needs a "genius" like you.
design is a industry..industry need publicity.publicity is made through television and other visual ways to promote and get population mass to know the promoters and their work.
publicity is indeed very tricky and nasty but doesnt meant u have to ofend people who want to try this way...

it is not prostitution to try to get urself be known by others.
it it prostitution when u pretend to be payed for showing up on tv.
i would rather pick on the fact that the FACT that big designers...and soo called huge television channels..who what to invest in this field...stop their search of new talents to cities like london...montreal ...paris...
Now THAT...i find it a problem.lots of talented kids and young persons from more poor cities try the imposible to get in that field...and they cant...more or less cuz of lack of money to invest in their knowledge in this field.
its a field where u need money to do your work and ideas.and it takes more than a pencil and a pen to get known in this field.soo...why london and not bucharest for example?why paris and not budapest?
