it was a great show, i particularly liked the work from Duncan of Jordanstone (who i'd previously not even heard of). love that papercut poster too.

Some very nice work. I particularly enjoyed the subtlety of the Penguin covers and the crop circle poster.

Great Show, quality of work was generally very good. Though the presentation of the D&AD student nominations was very poor.

Am I one of the few who was beginning to get sick and tired of seeing laser cut this and that in so many stalls?

2008 the year of the unnecessary cut.

I thought Duncan of Jordanstone had the best stall by far.
That college clearly had some worthwhile metal/wood workshops for their students.

the pieces that i have viewed are very nice BUT one wonders if they have something to say other than 'i am pretty' or that ' i am expensive to make' or 'i took a long time to make'. maybe i am old school but i still remember the days when lots could be said with very little. (like the penguin example.)

Look at the laser cut poster again, you'll be quite in awe at the idea behind it. I agree that the precedence of the idea is important in design but what's wrong with a beautifully crafted piece? Surely both have the power to inspire, lead and communicate on such levels that they stop you, and make you look on with amazement at their concept and what they are saying, no matter how it has been executed? like all of the work above.
