Geometrophilia

Kapitza, the design studio of sisters Nicole and Petra Kapitza has just released a book for all you geometrophiles out there. Geometric: Graphic Art and Pattern is chock full of 264 coloured and black and white patterns with 100 pattern fonts on an accompanying CD...
The disc apparently contains the most extensive pattern font collection available and includes a helpful font index and a series of tutorials so users can generate their own unique patterns.
Geometric is also beautifully put together. The book is printed on heavy matte stock, with an embossed cover wrapped in an American-style poster (it's very nice, see below).
The book is available now from Magma bookshops in the UK; £55.

Hey. What happened to my post?

@action man
Sorry about that - it may have been caught up in the spam clearance last night. Please do post again

utterly utterly pointless. trees died for this book.

Definately not pointless, but I do find myself drawn to the poster, pictured in the last few images, far more than the book. It seems a better way of displaying the work.

Amazing Patterns, a real treat for geometrophiles. A bit pricy though 55 quid.

@thepicklebot/limpert/geometricphiles/anyone who likes this book:
ok then, list the practical applications of this book and any use that it has.

Dadif... you're far too cynical. This book has myriad purposes:
$) To generate an income to the designers of said book.
$) To fill their time while they're not doing something really purposeful / challenging / engaging / provoking.
$) To raise profile and maintain position in the elite.
$) To feel like having done something noble: to be published.
$) To blaze a graphic trail through flat wastelands. narf narf.
$) To generate an income to the designers of said book.
etc etc.
utter gash. the poor earth weeps. the dearth of imagination sweeps up the yawning geometric cash.
and what a nothing poster, the kind of artless spam filling promotional postcard stands all over the world. pulp.

What's up with this months blog? Are CR earning a commission? Blatent product placement. Might as well add 'Sponsered By (add extremely niche product here)'.

I hate such books. They are boring. No text. Designer should search geometric and patterns in nature. I feel sorry for trees.

55 quid?
jog on.

To Honest Joe: I'm sorry you hate it so much, but I see nothing wrong with presenting a book full of colorful patterns -- the question is: are you so elitist and jaded that you cannot find joy in the simplicity of abstraction? Have we really come "so far" that we must abandon the idea that sometimes it's okay to present a book about "nothing"? I'm so painfully tired of having to have reasons for everything. Maybe it's just about the joy of smelling fresh process inks on uncoated paper? Does that experience deserve to sink to the bottom of your cynicism?

If I had £55 quid I'd buy it.

Damn it. I can't remember what was in my original post now.
I'm sure CR censored it : )
It's a nice self initiated project, displaying their abilities and passion. Like it or not.
Hopefully they will take any bitterness from here with a pinch of salt.
Good luck Nicole and Petra Kapitza.

They censored mine too ;)

@'Creative Review'
We don't 'censor' anyone - Mark explained what happened to Action Man's post and asked him to re-submit it. Your post was deleted because you decided to call yourself Creative Review. If you have to post anonymously, perhaps you could think of a different name to do it under?

@ 'the unbuilt'
wtf? have we come so far as we cant enjoy a book about nothing? just to enjoy the smell of ink on paper?
we are fucked.

I happen to love books like this. Looks interesting.

From the photos I can see that they use C at 75deg, M at 15, Y at 0 and K at 45.
This is unacceptable. I can see that the Magenta is not evenly spread out.
;-P
