We've had a redesign...

We know how sharply observant our readers are, so you've probably noticed that the blog looks different today. It's been redesigned to bring it more in line with the look of the magazine and, we hope, generally make it cleaner and easier to read.

There are a few new functions. To the top right, you can now list either the most read comments in the past two weeks, those that have had the most comments, or view categories. The comments section separates out individual comments to make it clearer and easier to read. And we have done away with our old general home page at creativereview.co.uk so that everyone now comes straight through to the blog.

This is the first day of the new site so there may well be teething troubles - if you are having any problems at all, please let us know in the comments section and we will address them as soon as possible.

I'd like to thank Marcus Taylor and the team at Taylor Thomas for all their hard work on the redesign.

20 Comments

Not a drastic departure, and for me, those are the best.

I particularly like how the search box is front and centre, and the use of DOM tabs for 'most read', 'commented' etc.

Not so keen on the graduation within the text boxes (for search and comments), but that's a very small point.

Good job.

Oh dear... What has happened here?

Just kidding!
Ok Ok. Not ALL of it is as bad as it first looks... but I found it important to clearly see the number of comments per thread. AND the nice 'post' button. We live in the 21st century you know, It's all about buttons on the internet.

Oh and it has a spell-check type thing in the text box here now. That's good. At least I don't so stupid anymore.

I don't dislike it enough to stop reading.

I've been hoping to warm to the redesign of the mag but it's not happening - but the content is always thought provoking and inspiring which is why I enjoy reading CR.

I don't want to be a negative Nancy here, but what have you done?

From the classy previous look you've moved over to what looks like a bastardised wordpress template.

Is being the same as amateurs really a good thing?

Maybe I'm missing something, does it look like this: http://img206.imageshack.us/my.php?image=blogup3.png for everyone else?

My slightly potty Grandma once sent me a bizarre birthday card with a drawing of dancing leprechaun on the front with the words 'Nothing Fancy, Nothing Complicated' written above his head. Although I found the card strange, I always thought it was good advice, especially when applied to design, and in this case, blogs, especially when the content is as consistently insightful, stimulating and entertaining as CR's. Keep up the good work.

Your redesigned website is a bit tricky to read - the copy is wedged up right up against the left margin. Anyone noticed the same? It may be the settings on my mac, but all other websites I've looked at today are ok.

@Amanda
It shouldn't be - can you tell us which browser you are using (including the version) and we'll check it out? Thanks

Happy Birthday!

I like the new look of the Comments section, my post seem larger than they actually are. Ah white space, a designers bestest friend.

@Jeff and Amanda
We've increased the canvas to 1000px and added 10px padding either side so hopefully that should sort the issue out. If we increased it any more users with a 1024 x 768 monitor would have to use horizontal scrolling. Hope that helps.

haha,

looks like the team at Taylor Thomas have given a rather large nod to UnderConsideration and BrandNew with the redesign.

I like it though, no complaints here.

I like the new look, very nice but not too drastic a change. I think sometimes it's braver to not make too many changes - you can end up 'mixing it up' or changing things just for the sake of it. Nice to see you avoided that trap.

Gah! I'm rather suprised by the amount of positive comments, it is of course all according to personal taste, but the minimal, fairly clean CR Blog, now looks rather cheap and clumsy, and the text butting against the left of the comment box's is annoying. But hey, CR still aggregates great new work and inspiration and a slightly less pretty blog isn't going to stop that!

keep it up .

Serves them right, bloody luddites!

The redesign both in terms of visual and information design does seem rather unpolished, even unfinished.

Love the top right buttons making access to content far easier. The overall 'tweak' to the design is just what it needed although the text is too small. Good job!
