Apple has responded to Microsoft's I'm A PC commercial with a dig about the amount of money its rival spends on advertising...

Isn't all this tit-for-tat stuff getting a bit childish and boring now?

pretty lame and hypocritical, the "I'm a PC" campaign was shameful and made MS look weak so it should have just been ignored.

Childish. I agree. Companies should focus on their own products, rather than spending money bashing the competition.

One of the reasons I always loved Macs was the feeling that I was not buying into part of a huge corporation. Those days are past, and while they are still far ahead of their competitors, this sort of advertising demonstrates the lack of imagination in their marketing direction noticeable in recent years.

"Childish. I agree."

Sure. But it's also true. I don't think Apple was digging on MS's marketing budget as much as they are digging on the marketing-to-R&D ratio at MS.

Crickey,

This whole thing is just boring, and the Mac 'guy' is actually really annoying.

Yawn yawn yawn, we get the concept, we got the concept years ago, move on and do something original Apple.

Love that fight!

I read this post earlier today where a guy from Sweden had is ideas about the campaign. Kinda cool: http://www.ronnestam.com/2008/10/20/apple-doesn’t-even-seem-hurt-by-that-clean-uppercut-from-microsoft-but-then-again-who-would-have-thought-that/

I love the Mac campaign. And I'm a PC.

Aside from the creative merits of either the Mac or PC campaign, this sort of advertising just fuels the (f)ire of all the Mac/PC evangelists out there. Surely, this sort of argument is as pointless as asking whether or not the computer has changed graphic design? It has. Next?

Smug & horrible, makes me dislike Mac a bit, despite I'm a massive evangelist

What are they talking about? I've seen only one ad from PC and this Mac ad is already like the 50th. So, who spends more on this advertising? By the way I'm Mac and I agree that the cool Mac guy is annoying. The other one is at least funny.

All a bit pointless given that Bill Gates owns about 70% of Apple... and Macs & PC's use the the same hard drives and ram cards...I know which I'd rather use though - and it isn't running Vista/XP.

where did you get this 70% from? I never heard of Bill Gates owning anything in Apple.

"Isn’t all this tit-for-tat stuff getting a bit childish and boring now?"
It is, but I think that is not the problem. The problem is that I read about a childish and boring commercial on the CR blog. Just because it's Apple?
I come here to read about interesting and innovative work. If some company releases bad commercials, I simply don't expect them to be featured here. You could simply ignore them.

This is the most pathetic and hypocritical thing i have ever seen.

Ever.

Apple has just wasted money on ADVERTISING instead of investing in it's own products - the very thing it is criticising!

Stupid, stupid idiots.

There are serious problems in the world (one being the fact that we are kind of in economic meltdown) and we have mega-corporations acting like children/politicians and throwing money away on rubbish like this. These companies are in hugely influential positions and could really push progress throughout the world but instead they come up with this as the sum of their innovation and creativity.

How very sad.
