Ding Dong Merrily On High

Yep, in case you hadn't noticed, 'tis the season for tawdry advertising once more. Here, though, is a selection of christmassy ads that made us smile rather than wince, plus some other amusing xmas ad-related paraphernalia...
First up are some poster ads for Lynx from BBH London, which wittily reapply the usual Lynx message (the unlikely notion that the deodorant will make users irresistible to women) for the Christmas season.

Agency: BBH, art director: Adam Thompson, copywriter: Dan Glover-James, photographer: Julian Wolkenstein
Next is an ad for Vodafone from DDFH&B Dublin, which sees a guy use his phone to create the perfect gift for his girlfriend (without inducing too much nausea in viewers). The director of the spot is James Rouse, from production company Outsider.
Sell! Sell! has created this poster campaign for soft drinks company Fentimans, which aims to poke fun at Coca-Cola's dominance of Christmas. The ad, which is not shown at its best here admittedly (try and imagine it as a 96-sheet poster), features a Fentimans Santa standing victorious over a Coke Santa. The ad is illustrated by Steven Noble.

Over to the States now, and this ad for Target from Wieden + Kennedy Portland. The spot is one of a series for the homewares store which emphasises the low prices the brand offers. In addition, this one also manages to conjure up the spectre of the annual Christmas family row...
There are a number of online advent calendars about - this one's from Dorset Cereals, and offers the chance for visitors to win a prize each day. Visit the site at dorsetcereals.co.uk/advent-calendar.

Wieden + Kennedy in London has also created its own advent calendar, which charmingly features daily photographs of Christmassy things created near their offices in Shoreditch. The calendar looks like this...

And here's how it looks with a window open... Visit the calendar at wkadventcalendar.com.

St Luke's ad agency has also got in on the Christmas action, with this website/Christmas card, which features its staff (we assume) playing Christmas bells, and offers visitors the chance to join in.

Finally, last but hopefully not least, is an early Merry Christmas to all our readers from the CR editorial team, created via this year's Elf Yourself site from OfficeMax. We recommend that you all elf yourselves too... bad photos seem to have the maximum comic effect we've found. Visit the site here: elfyourself.com.
Keep sending us your Christmas treats everyone, and I'll do another blog post before the big day arrives.

Love that domestic fight in the Target spot. The house is a bit too nice to go with his thriftiness, but that seems to be the settings for many typical spots.

Favourite by far is your elfyourself video! Brilliant! Genius! Though sadly not an advert from the festive season. Of those I didn't particularly love any of them. None of them grabbed me or instilled me with christmas spirit - not like the Coke advert does every year, without fail (sorry Fentimans)

Loved your ElfYourself greeting and the photos you selected added to its comedic effect. Thanks for sharing.

Really liked the advert for Target. I hate all the generic Christmas adverts around this time of year it's nice to see some examples of adverts for the seasonal period without just putting in Santa or a rubbish Christmas song.

I love some of these adverts! Admittedly they still come on far far too early! but adverts like the LYNX ones are really good! The Argos adverts are also better than usual this year? I don't know if many people will agree but I was pleasantly surprised by them!
