A quick spot of festive furtling

This charming little magazine insert fell onto my desk the other day and has since caused much infantile amusement. It's for Fentimans lemonade and introduces one to the concept of "furtling". Click through for the cheeky reveal...
In a rare example of an insert that you actually pick up and look at, this strange postcard invites the reader to "place the portion of the hand indicated against the aperture above and review the scene overleaf".
Essentially, you make a fist with one hand and hold it under the card – thus you are engaged in "furtling"; the art of simulating anatomical features using the hand.

Haha. Risqué.
The point seems to be that to make for a more satisfying lemonade beverage, you should "up-end and invigorate bottom". Clearly a good excuse to run a nice little bum gag in an ad campaign.

We think the creative is by Sell! Sell! as they're also behind the recent Coca-Cola-kicking posters for Fentimans, illustrated by Steve Noble:

I love the anti-cola-santa illustration; although I'd of had the fentimans santa in green.

when I was a kid in the 1960s (in Redcar, Teesside) The Fentiman's man used to come round every week to deliver the 'pop'... Dandelion & Burdock, Orangeade, (never ever Lemonade - in Teesside you got Lowcock's lemonade).
He used to show us how he could juggle 3 large 'pop' bottles... and he looked like Sir Geoff Hurst!!

I actually bought a book back in 1990 called The Naughty Victorian Hand-Book. The rediscovered art of erotic hand manipulation, it’s full of all these great pictures! Hours of fun!
