Fairey's poster for Earth Hour
Following the success of his Obama poster, Shepard Fairey has been commissioned to create a poster to advertise this year's Earth Hour.
Earth Hour was created by WWF and Leo Burnett advertising agency in 2007, when over 2.2 million Sydney dwellers switched off their electricity for an hour in a bid to raise awareness of climate change. In 2008, Earth Hour went global for the first time, taking place in 35 countries. This year Earth Hour will take place on March 28 at 8.30pm.

"Of all the crises we’re facing right now, I think the environmental one is the biggest," says Fairey. "Bigger than the economy, bigger than terrorism. It’s serious, but I’m hopeful about it, because I feel like every single person can make a difference and be part of the greater solution. If I can use my art in any way to have a positive impact, I’m glad to do it."

Urgh..yet another Fairey poster. Fair enough, the Obama one was classic and iconic..kudos to him on that. But this? And is that "stretched" type at the bottom?!

Too bad it's so similar to his work for Z-Trip.

Hmm it is quite similar to his z-trip poster. Anyway, regardless, lets look at the message.

I like the retro feel, but when you see it in the light of his Obama series, isn't it too self-referential?

Respect to how the Obama poster blew up and became the flag of the whole political circus, but surely this Earth Hour poster is worth blog space all of it's own. It's very ok, and has been done by Shepard Fairey.
Hearing about what he eats for breakfast and what washing powder he likes on all the American design blogs is bad enough already.

An artist going by the name of "The Phantom" is calling out Shepard Fairey to a cage match concerning these issues. http://citizenla.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=587

Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at http://www.commit21.com

The Editorial Staff at the CitizenLA revealed that Fairey told the Editor and CEO he felt betrayed by their latest 2009 issue where The Phantom Street Artist called out Shepard Fairey to a cage match addressing his copyright infringement issues. Seems like the Gratuitous Fairey feels the Media should be all his and only his!!
