For a brief glimpse into the working methods of one of the UK's best illustrators, head on over to Tom Gauld's new Flickr page, where he has uploaded several of his sketchbook pages. For example, you can see how a cartoon he did for the Guardian entitled, The Street Tom Waits Grew Up On, evolved from a list of ideas and drawings to final artwork...

Favorite cartoonist on Earth at the moment and I am one. I'm my 412th favorite. I highly recommend his work, especially Hunter and Painter. Also his mini-comics three pack comics if you can find them anywhere. - hoboxia.com

I love Tom Gauld's work and it's fantastic to get a glimpse of the work in progress like this!

As hoboxia mentions, his mini comics are amazing, really work seeking out!

Black/White thoughts are the best to observe...so much about the person behind the creative gets revealed(in some cases). Nice thoughts and sketches...
