Nice camera, clunky name

Meet the Diana F+ CMYK, the latest addition to the retro-styled range of 1960s cameras from the Lomographic Society. But just so you know, it's pronounced "Eff Plus Smeek"...

"See Em Why Kay" just didn't cut the mustard it seems, despite the printing initialism for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (meaning Black) being the inspiration for the dynamic colourway design of the newest Diana model.

The all-plastic Diana range was originally launched in the early 1960s, with the Diana+ (which boasted a "balanced" lens) launching in 2007 and the Diana F+ (with a flash) coming out last year.

In fact, there's a whole family of Diana models – notably a red and white one named the Meg in homage to the White Stripes and even a creepy green glow in the dark version – all of which can be seen on the Lomography website.

And most of the them – bar the all-white Edelweiss model – don't have silly names.

Amusing to see recent Sunday supplements (20 September, Sunday Times 'Style'; 10 October, Independent Magazine) apeing the style of vivid colours, haphazard exposure, multiple exposure and all the qualities of a plastic lens in a leaky plastic camera body. Looks like film is fighting back.

I'd love to see these kind of cameras going digital.. same lense, body, and everything..
but with a decent post-processing built-in :]

I love them and I want one. Even the name doesn't bother me! Retro is in and film is back with a vengeance! Can't wait to get my hands on one and play with some lenses and films!

Good to see the plastic camera movement is still expanding, especially with such cool new ones like the Holga Stereo 3-D camera, not to mention the Diana Mini 1/2 format camera, or the Blackbird Fly TLR. BTW, here's a really cool version of the Blackbird Fly, as profiled on the SciFi Japan web site:

You can get that one in the US, Japan & SE Asia.

This is not a proper example (photo) to illustrate Lomo/Diana photographic possibilities.

@ WilhelmR - Nooooo- not digital. What's the point of making a digital version? Defeats the point. These were meant to be dead cheap plastic pieces of rubbish with their own charms. Diana cameras have a history! You would never get the same effect digitally and it would be soulless and take away the excitement of getting your set of prints back.

And as with Marija- I agree. There is much better work out there.

The Blackbirds are cool, I have one, and I have one of these- but I have to say this camera yields better results than the Blackbird which is a bit hard to use.

Analoge forever !

Lomo is the way! I just hope that Polaroid is the next 'darling' of photography and gets to come back. I've one shot left in my Polaroid 600 then its all over... *sniff*
