Over on the Flickr forum, outrage abounds at a rather unsubtle tweak to the logo...

Flickr and parent company Ludicorp were acquired by Yahoo! back in 2005 but, until a few days ago, the internet giant's presence on the look and feel of the photo-sharing site was minimal.

While the clunky "from Yahoo!" isn't exactly on equal footing with the familiar blue and pink lettering, the majority of the comments we checked on the forum suggest that it's uniformly disliked.

Flickr has always had a very strong community feel, so tacking on a reminder that 1) the site is owned by an enormous internet behemoth and 2) its own logo is really quite terrible indeed, is bound to cause some upset among the faithful.

And if you're one of those, try this nifty bit of code, which restores the logo to its original Yahoo!-less purity.

Thanks for the code. I think Yahoo forgot the market make-up of Flickr - visual junkies, design/ photography professionals (& amateurs) all with an eye for detail and an appreciation of simple and beautiful imagery. Oh, and there's also the tw*ts that just fill it with their drunken night out pics. They probably want the logo bigger!

Honestly, once on the site, who cares who owns it?! The format doesn't lead users to the parent company, it would work much better as a feature promoted on the Yahoo site.

Flicker has become a strong brand in its own right. Yahoo are obviously looking to strengthen their brand but I would argue rather than defacing the Flicker logo, they should have include a 'Brought to you by Yahoo' statement in the footer of the website, more subtle, but much more refined.

When people start complaining about stuff like this, it makes me think I'm in the wrong profession. I just can't find the energy to care about something so trivial when there is so much going on in the world that needs our attention. The Flickr logo was hardly a work of genius in the first place anyway.

Couldn't agree more. It would look more professional and actually make yahoo look a little classy for being subtle about it.

In its current state it just looks cheap. I agree its really not a major issue as a user (I dont know why users give a shit tbh), but from Yahoo's point of view its a pretty poor marketing/branding attempt; cheapening 2 brands.

Now new users to the service wont feel like they're joining something new and different, they'll just feel as though they're signing up to a crummy yahoo service. Do Yahoo think their assosiation is something to boast about? Poor guys.

hi, let me just add my thoughts, better late than never.

This is a result of Yahoo's popularity levels going down to due to strong competition by Google as many users now "google" when they need to search for anything. People say, "why don't you just google it?" and you don't hear people say, "why don't you just yahoo it?" it just doesn't roll off the tongue as well.

Flickr is so popular and doing so well on it's own that floundering parent company decided the best way to boost it's own not so popular image was to tighten the apron strings attached to it's money making, super-star kid.

the Yahoo logo looks like it has 2x dots for the exclamation and it's because of the registered trademark. on this size scale the "TM" would have been lost and therefore should not have been included on certain applications like this or under a certain size. Their design department should have thought of that and if it's not already in their corporate guidelines then they need to add in this section under LOGO.

Not the smartest thing Yahoo could have done. Quite a daft thing to do tbh. It won't do them much favours with most users of flickr.

The flickr logo is quite cool and the addition of the yahoo logo (which funny enough is not too bad on it's own) not only detracts from the flickr logo but messes up the new combined logo. They should revert it back to what it was. It would be funny if google did a similar thing with the youtube logo.
