Back in March we announced the shortlist for our competition to create films on health issues for the NHS. Each of the shortlisted entrants has now made their test film...

NHS Choices and CR gave readers the chance to develop a new animated character/s to communicate vital public health messages. The chosen entrant will be given a six month contract to develop his or her concept and put it into action.

We initially asked for storyboards and character sketches from which a shortlist of five was chosen in March. Those five were then each given £3000 to make a test film. And here they are:

First up, The Tokkels by The Brothers McLeod:

Next, Modern Martin by Naomi Zahl

And, certainly the most left-field, Bone Dog by Boram Lee:

It's In You by Wolfgang Matzl:

And, finally, Bob and Brenda by Ian Ball:

From these, a final winner will be chosen who will be awarded a six-month contract by NHS Choices to develop their concept and put it into action. More background info here

It's in you and Modern Martin put a smile on my face. Bone Dog was like a children's book tale.

I think we can all agree that there have been some great animations created here - I myself am very impressed! One of the main things that these adverts will lead to is capturing the attention of many thousands of people who otherwise would not pay attention to the usually rather tedious and monochromatic approach of the usual NHS adverts. Adding in humour is a great way to grab people's attention, and I think these adverts will do just that!

Modern Martin left me smiling too. I liked the range of characters and the cinematic references, and the more you watch it, the more you discover. Mr Martin gets my vote.

Bob and Brenda is clearly the most clear and funny option here.

Love the Tokkels - a great visual gag but I wonder if they could find equally funny visuals for the series? Bob and Brenda has great styling and the comedy in the message is spot on. Very engaging!

my favorite is bonedog animation, others have no style and it doesn't make me paying attention. we've seen those kind of animation everywhere, but bonedog is very funny and catching eyes!

The tokkels, apart from their name, wins hands down. short ,concise and fun. Others whilst good ideas too long and tedious.

martin was the most professional with much thought as to the brief - the one that will appeal to the widest generational audience - which is the point. It also has the most potential in that the characters can be developed for future directed campaigns. There seems to be lot more creativity and scope to come from the animator of Martin. The others -whilst charming- seems rather limited in comparison.
