At the Design Indaba conference yesterday, Ogilvy & Mather Mumbai creative director Piyush Pandey introduced the audience to a totally charming set of ads for Vodafone, that have proved an enormous success in India...

The spots have the appearance of animation, which as Pandey explained was a significant step for Indian advertising, as animated films are all viewed there as "just for kids", with adults having no interest. The Zoozoo characters have changed this, however, and have now received "more hits than Mickey Mouse to date", according to Pandey.

Despite their animated appearance, the films actually feature people in body suits. Twenty-five were made, all of which are shown above, and Ogilvy & Mather is currently working on a new set. The spots are directed by Prakash Varma of Nirvana Films.

Superbly entertaining. The agency based in Mumbai certainly understands the humour buttons of its clients middle class customers. There are numerous references taken from cinema. It would have been a big risk campaign.

i think this campaign was totally awesome...
there are so many possibilities that you can explore with the characters...
the messages are delivered in a positive way and they keep the viewer hooked,
wondering whats gonna happen next..
WELL DONE!!

Hi,
I usually see your articles in my aggregator, and –only for your blog– I always see embed code for videos like youtube: such a annoying problem.

best regards
