Graphic design? No sweat

Meet John White (above). As a busy graphic designer, nothing makes him happier than solving his clients' problems. Unfortunately, John's busy schedule of giving Powerpoint presentations and waving a briefcase (briefcase?) in the air at street corners to hail passing cabs can turn him from a stylish designer of graphics into a sweaty beast-man. Hey, it can happen to the best of us. But, sweat ye no longer, practioners of graphic design: John's solved his own (and your) embarrassing sweat problem and has very kindly begun broadcasting the happy news all over TV - in the form of a new advert for Sure deodorant. Hooray!

Hahahahahaha
I was running around London on Tuesday.
I however use Rightguard.

I like this advert.

Yeah, briefcase, for carrying briefs. Anyway, it looks more like an A2 portfolio to me.
I use spraymount.

Just look at his face... he's clearly nowhere near deranged enough to be a real designer! ;)

I'm a graphic designer and I don't run around, it'd be great to get rid of my belly flab by working the way this guy does rather than spending days / weeks at my desk also he looks WAYYYY too conservative to be a designer.

I thought this was a toothpaste ad from the pearly whites he has!

ha ha, i love the 'tah-dah - presentation and no sweat' moment at the end. Maybe if we all incorporated that into our presentations we'd be as successful as John.

It doesn't matter what your profession is, It is important to look fresh. Nice ad.

Thats all good and well, but does he smell like a man?

This is a piss take, right?

What he really needed was a Brother printer:

They should have had him working up a sweat by skateboarding to the presentation, and raising his arm in the air on street corners to get a wi-fi reception on his iPhone.
2010-02-26 11:02:16
Is it just me or has he got a face you just want to keep slapping?.... then remove all of his nice teeth!!!!!!!!!!
2010-02-26 12:28:48
If he didn't stop off to peruse the deodorant section, he wouldn't have to rush to meetings! Also, who runs down stairs like that?
2010-02-26 12:35:41
Eugh. I hate ads that try to appeal to an audience and miss so hideously.
2010-02-26 12:40:25
Wow that SURE is rubbish - get it ha ahahaah ahhaha. Come on the joke is better than the advert!
2010-02-26 12:40:48
How can he be a graphic designer? He has no facial hair, looks healthy, is wearing a shirt and even though he's pitching against twenty other design agencies looks completely happy.

Now that I've stopped laughing, it actually makes me weep. I'm very jealous of Rugged Career-Minded Fresh Man. I mean, wow, this guy is amazing! What a great life! What a great job! He's just SO happy to be running around and presenting stuff and here I am, sitting in a 12-year-old tracksuit (ie, one that is 12 years old, rather than one belonging to a 12-year-old - I'm not really, really small), drinking lukewarm tea and wondering what else I can moan about as I continue to avoid doing my proper work. Oh to have his passion for life, pressed shirts and sweatless armpits!

this ad makes me ashamed to be a designer. I hate that man. When is he working 1986?
2010-02-26 13:41:34
You have to put on an thick Irish accent when you say
"Sure, it won't let you down."
and I'm saying that as an Irishman.....
2010-02-26 14:33:26
Where's his Mac?
(Actually, he looks like a PC sort of guy....)
2010-02-26 14:36:47
Its the stair glide run that makes me crease everytime I see it! If you pause it just after his big presentation moment and look in to his eyes he looks a bit psychotic... maybe there is a little bit of designer in him after all.

I can't believe this is the first post on the newsletter, damn I feel creative now, thanks for the inspiration John White.

Real designers use Spray Mount.
2010-02-28 13:32:57
Pfff. He actually thinks that dressing like a credible, mature professional and creating a good impression is important (sucker!). Grow a beard, dress ten years too young for your age, and adopt an "I'm so much cooler than you" aura of smugness, you loser.

Interesting isn't it.
Far from the ad being in any way misguided, it succinctly demonstrates the problem that graphic design has.
This is how society perceives graphic design. Beyond us industry insiders, this is exactly what the public believes designers to be. Do bear in mind that the vast majority of the developed worlds population believe that one can go to Kall Kwik or Prontaprint for some first rate design.
Now, if design has such a significant impact on society, how come society doesn't know?

To top it off – isn't he presenting floor plans? I thought was an architect's gig?!
2010-03-01 13:40:59
He reminds me of the character in 'American Psycho'. I imagine he's got a huge Phil Collins collection at home which he swims through sweating his arse off! If this advert is so wrong for graphic designers, imagine all the other ads featuring professions!
2010-03-01 15:43:01
Stinky advert. I use Pitrok. All that aluminium can give you cancer.
2010-03-01 16:29:32
Funniest thing ive seen in a while, ive never waved my arms around like that in a presentation.
Must be where I'm going wrong :-)
