To help raise money for homeless charity Crisis, Prince William has participated in a photography project alongside Jeff Hubbard, who was helped by the charity's educational programme. The resulting diptych, shown above, will appear as part of the forthcoming exhibition A Positive View at Somerset House in March.
The project saw Prince William and Hubbard photograph each other, under the creative guidance of Rankin. The diptych marks the first time that a Royal portrait has been shot by a member of the public, and is also the first public display of a photo by the Prince. It will be auctioned at the end of the exhibition's run in aid of Crisis.
Jeff Hubbard was helped by Crisis after becoming homeless in 2007. He took part in a number of Crisis' education programmes, including workshops in art and photography, at the charity's East London centre. "Creating the diptych with Prince William was a little nerveracking at first but I soon relaxed," he says. "After all, how often do you get the chance to photograph a prince? Working with Rankin in the run-up to the shoot really helped me develop my skills and confidence as a photographer, which was a real privilege. The end result is unique. Auctioning the image will raise vital funds for Crisis - and I know from personal experience just how important the work they do is."
A film of the shoot is on the Crisis website, here. More info on A Postive View is available here.

"After all how often do you get the chance to photograph a Prince?"
Oh for god sake, please! Get off your knees, this is the 21st century, not the 16th–if the Prince really cared about the homeless he'd give up Buckingham Palace so they could sleep there, you could probably fit all the homeless in London in there alone, and that of course is only one of his pads…it's because of the rich like him that people are homeless…
Off with their heads!

I laughed at this when I saw it. How uncomfortable does William look!
I don't think anybody has the right to criticize somebody who slept rough for the night. Why don't you give up your home for a homeless person to live in.

@ noel
Maybe your ire would be better directed at the capitalist rich? Or the government? Or, heck, a greedy society in general?
I don't think you can blame homelessness on a man who has done more for charitable causes than any of us ever will. The Royal Family can't be held responsible for job losses, unaffordable housing, mental health problems, family breakdowns, or any other cause of homelessness. And I think they earn their keep much better than super-rich businesses or our politicians.
Back on with their heads!

Ed
I'm with you! Noel, just how much have you done to help charities on recent years?

Oh the moralists are out! Well shock horror I don't believe in charity, it's an idea that perpetuates the idea that the poor need to be helped by the rich, when it is the rich who have stolen from the poor…this doesn't mean I don't give occasionally, I have for instance recently just organised a fundraiser for Haiti, and another for Palestine when Gaza was being attacked, and as a long term political activist with some significant achievements to my name, I don't need to be guilt tripped thank you very much!
The royal family stand for everything that is wrong about our society, they represent an unequal, undemocractic society, and whether you like it or not, they are part of the ruling class who are to blame for the problems we have in our society.
I don't care how much they do for charity, they bloody should with the amount of money we give them! (and let's not forget they didn't pay tax till recently)! And Ed, the royal famlily being one of the major landowners in the country are part of the super rich!
Ask yourself whether in any other situation you would except someone saying they are entitled to your money, just because of birthright!
We can never have a really democratic society till they go, so as I said get off your knees it's pathetic!
Let the poor take over their palaces!
I'm sharpening the guillotine…
