Mr Bingo's Haiti relief effort

London-based illustrator Mr Bingo is, very commendably, doing his bit to raise some money for the relief effort in Haiti following last week's devastating earthquake. He is offering two 100mm x150mm prints for sale at £5 each - with every single penny going to UNICEF's Haiti Earthquake Children's Appeal.
There are two prints, one of a cat wearing a corset (below) and one of a group of sheep (above) - each one is hand silkscreened on 350gsm Bright White Colourplan paper and signed by the artist. Paper for this charitable project was donated by GFSmith and screenprinting done by K2 Screen.

Shamless self promotion.

Oliver: Leave the cynicism for another post. He's raised going on £2000 which I am sure will make a real difference to someone at their biggest time of need.

What a total douche for saying that, I think he is talented enough not to piggy back off something like this.
2010-01-22 11:15:27
I got one and it is dope

Oh Oliver, you've become so cynical since losing X factor!
You should use your new found fame to raise some
money too instead of stroking your massive chin & moaning!
2010-01-22 11:24:21
Oliver: not good.
2010-01-22 11:25:57
To further my annoyance at that comment, I've just purchased one.

Even if it is shameless promotion, which I don't think it is, as long as it helps someone...kudos to him!
Just bought the sheep.

No Sham in raising money and awareness for such a good cause, I've got both on order, big thumbs up all round to Mr Bingo.

Who's Oliver?

From "Master of Pen's" to "Master of the Universe".
Brilliant idea - Well done Mr Bingo.

Has he raised money for Haiti? :D

As for myself, don't have much cash at moment, though doesn't stop me from
volunteering and just being there for my mates who survived Black Saturday
almost a year ago, raising money good!
Helps longterm, only so much the gov can do!
Peace and respect Mr. B !

Sad that people often need to receive something in return for 'donating' money. Perhaps it doesn't matter as long as the cash goes to the good cause, but would anyone buying a print of donated otherwise. I wonder if they'd complain if they never received their print...

Shelfless elf demotion.

I am a bit bemused by Oliver's suggestion that this is 'shameless self promotion'. I don't think the accusation is correct here but in any case, since when, in Creative Review, should one be ashamed of promotion of self or others? Isn't that what our industry is about? It's not like anyone spits the dummy when an agency or an illustrator sends out an e card or a brochure and it DOESN'T benefit a charity, is it? In this instance the 'self promotion' happens to benefit people in need and if Mr B makes a few bob out of it by the sale of other works, then more power to his very talented elbow. I bought the cat for my missus and every time I look at it, I'll think of Oliver, Haiti and that when doing anything in public, self promotion is an unavoidable thing that – it turns out – can be used for the good of others. And the improvement of the aesthetic in my kitchen.

How can there be ANYTHING wrong with collecting funds for a good cause? Faulting Mr. Bingo for converting his art into financial aid is the most assenine thing I've heard. The fact that people are getting something in return for their donation doesn't help the people of Haiti any less. The artist & those buying prints are at least taking action, no matter how you look at it. Stop being so cynical people, if this means of helping isn't your bag, quit commenting about it and go offer your own time and money in support of the people suffering in Haiti.
