Lego at Fashion Week

Art

Fashion Week is probably the last place you'd expect to find a Lego-based project... but, to raise money for charity, four unique Lego pieces – each created by a leading fashion designer – will be auctioned during London Fashion Week later this month...

Designers Antoni and Alison, Wayne Hemingway (his colourful cat piece, shown above), Sam Ubhi and Ely Kishimoto each created an artwork using the popular plastic bricks and the four works will be auctioned on eBay during London Fashion Week between February 15 and 25 to raise money for Lego UK's charity partner, The National Autistic Society Here's what the artworks look like:

Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto created a Lego brick tile of their popular Flash pattern

Design duo Antoni and Alison had a bit more trouble deciding what to make: "Our final piece has been many things already - a giant bow, a dress and a light bulb. We then took them all apart and re built it as an 'Unfinished Piece', a much better idea." The piece comes with its own artwork plaque.

Meanwhile Sam Ubhi created this Lego handbag - inspired by 1920s fashion...

Potential bidders can view the items at autism.org.uk/legoauction

It's nice and well that LEGO gets more attention by other creative disciplines, but as someone who has dabbled in the medium a lot it's a bit sad to see such mediocre creations getting displayed. There's simply so much better stuff out there :)

It's good to see LEGO having such a renaissance recently. Those little bricks make me feel warm inside.

I think these are great - especially the last two. I bet they are really tactile as well. Agree with Kev, lego seems to be springing up a lot more at the moment, especially with the Santander / Lewis Hamilton ad.

Hmmm...and here I would have expected more from top designers in the fashion industry. Eley & Kishimoto's creation is decent and I have to give Ubhi props for going the innovative route. Aside from that...I have to admit I'm a little disappointed.
