The career of the late, great Barney Bubbles is to be celebrated in an exhibition running as part of the London Design Festival in September

PROCESS: The working practices of Barney Bubbles will, we are promised "present for the first time original artefacts and artwork, as well as personal sketchbooks, equipment and student notebooks, books and photography relating to the stunning designs produced by Barney Bubbles for record sleeves, posters, advertising and videos for the likes of Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello, The Damned, Ian Dury, Hawkwind, Nick Lowe, The Specials and many others."

Among the exhibits promised are original artwork for Bubbles' last project, the Ian Dury album 4000 Weeks Holiday (shown top); sketches and proofs for a range of never released designs; a rug contributed by Billy Bragg featuring Bubbles' design for his album Brewing Up (shown below); and a never-before publicly displayed 7ft tall Chuck Berry mobile sculpture created for a private music industry client.

The show is curated by Paul Gorman, author of the Bubbles monograph, Reasons To Be Cheerful (more here).

It runs from September 14 - October 23 at Chelsea Space, Chelsea College Of Art & Design, 16 John Islip Street, London SW1P 4JU

I am a huge fan of Billy Bragg and did not know where the cover for Brewing Up came from- will have to visit this. Are there anymore samples of his work online? Grant

If you want to see more of Barney's work I recommend Paul Gorman's fine tome 'Reasons To Be Cheerful' published in 2008 by Adelita.
