Remember the HP Printer film that we featured as part of our graduate coverage last year? Well one year on, its creators, Matt Robinson and Tom Wrigglesworth, have created a sequel...

Robinson and Wrigglesworth picked up the Best New Blood award at D&AD last year with their original film, which saw a number of a HP printers perform a synchronised print in time to music. This year's version, which was commissioned by HP, sees three HP Photosmart printers used to tell a complex animated narrative.

I tend to agree with Sally, this had a much more corporate feel to it. Although it told a bigger story and had more of a narrative, it seemed to be lacking something. I was a huge fan of the original film though, it was very different at the time, and a very quick shoot, low budget feel to it.

Maybe not as good as the original, but still very nice bit of work.
Maybe a quicker start and ending at the earth zooming out would have made it spot on. Good to see the Guys at HP picking up on new blood.

good on them - thats how commissioned work goes people, the original was a trendy student electro studio bash and the new one was for the money

Simple & Clever....

Loads of ink and paper used though....must be for a good reason.

Cheers.

Great stuff. Really enjoyed it. It clearly has the same sensibilities of the original but its nice to see the idea evolve and develop into something more mature. Well done.

Good stuff, although I enjoyed the original more.

It's right that people should be concerned about the amount of ink and paper used to make the film, but it's funny that people make a point of it only when they are able to visually see what materials go into making it. I'm sure other ad and shorts film makers use far more materials and energy to make their productions that you don't mention because you didn't have the privilege of 'seeing it'.

not a patch on the original but fair play for them getting some recognition for what they did first time round. i won't be holding on for a final piece of the trilogy though

Did they actually use paper and ink??
I'd have thought it'd all be digital animation. Easier, cheaper, faster, eco and identical.
Good fun though, but agree it lacked a certain boom. Whatever boom is...
