Vimeo offers $25,000 grant for award winner

Vimeo has launched an award scheme for online filmmakers with a top prize of a $25,000 grant to create a new video work

The awards are open to any piece of work that either first appeared online between June 3 2008 and July 30 2010 or work that has never been publicly displayed before.

The categories are: Narrative; Documentary; Animation; Experimental; Music Video; Motion Graphics; Remix; Captured and Original Series. Judges include Roman Coppola, David Lynch, Shane Walter of onedotzero, documentary makers Lucy Walker and Morgan Spurlock and animator Ree Treweek.

There will be a winner for each category, public choice awards voted by Vimeo users and the Best Video Award of the aforementioned $25,000 grant.

Entries cost $20 or $5 for Vimeo Plus subscribers. Full details are here as are preliminary details about Vimeo's upcoming two-day festival to be held in New York on October 8 and 9.
