A new set of stamps to mark 150 years of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home tugs on the heart strings with images starring the likes of Leonard here

The stamps were designed by CDT with photographs by Steve Hoskins. Each one features a cat or dog who has been succesfully 'rehomed'.

Yes, it's very much a straight-up approach but you can't argue with the cuteness. The stamps are available for purchase from Post Offices across the UK.

It seems somehat absurd that stamps can be used for this cause but not Steve McQueen's gesture of putting British soldiers lost in Iraq/Afghanistan to be on them. The last dog on the post does look adorable though.

I'd love a set of these stamps. They're stunning portraits, so full of character. It looks like they were having loads of fun in the studio, I want that job!

Beautiful shots indeed but shouldn't they all be in the act of licking (like one or two of them)? Someone's missed a trick here...

I like them for the cute factor. However I can't help but think they could be used to soften the blow of your credit card bill, eviction notice, final warning letters. No one can be sad when they look at a picture of a happy puppy!

Do the stamps lick themselves?

John's comment that they should concentrate on 'Lost soldiers' is a valid one however when is last time we focused on an animal based charity such as this? Battersea has never been in the forefront of any politician's agenda nor will it ever be - it does not win votes; lets take advantage of the potential revenue this can generate for Battersea and leave the 'War' to the government who, I agree, should indeed be supporting our lost and injured boys out in Afghanistan. No one but 'Jo/Joe' public supports animal welfare (there WILL be an anorack out there who disagrees) so I will buy these - especially the snarling JR - especially when I write to my mother!

These are great. I think it is really nice that they did this for the charity and it is nice to see them all looking well. Bless them. Great photography and nice use of typography within the design too.

Kind of strange, that according to Royal Mail law, no pictures of any liiving people (other than the Royal family of course) are allowed on stamps. Yet here are a number of pictures of what look like quite lively and alive animals, unless they were all destined to be put down, and therefore fit the category of being deceased. Bring on the corgis....

The clue is in the word 'people'.
