Protest Posters, Parisian Style

Left-wing protesters hijacked the illuminated billboards in a Paris Metro station recently, using them to advertise their own messages instead...

The billboards were spotted in the Strasbourg Saint-Denis Metro station, with the posters displayed to coincide with the French regional elections on Sunday, which saw Sarkozy receive a severe drubbing from the left. We don't know if the original ads were removed from the billboards, or if the signs were already empty, but these handmade posters certainly benefit from their brightly lit backdrops.

Wish I'd paid more attention at CSE French. What do they say?

Some translations :
"The state protects the banks, the wealthy and the corporations...what about us?"
"Zone of brain intoxication"
"Double your profit : demand a new planet"
"I see nothing, I hear nothing, I say nothing...I'm a good citizen."
The others are french puns impossible to translate or things that don't make much sense.

Actually the Stop Pub movement has been
going in France since 2002/3 they regularly go into the metro and do these kind of actions.
They use keys to take the posters out and replace them-the biggest co-ordinated action was when 300 activists defaced, changed and graffitied all the metro stop ads in central Paris whilst the European Social Forum (a gathering of 30000 anti capitalist activists) was in town in 2003
anyone up for it in London-get in touch!

I guess there needs to be a worldwide movement to protest via these advertising spaces which bombard us with their buy buy buy messages!

Thanks for the translations. I think this is a great idea, I hope they did not remove any other posters though. The hand writing really does add to the messages. Great article.
