Adidas: Fast vs. Fast

Advertising

The World Cup-based advertising is arriving daily, but the best we've seen so far comes from 180 Amsterdam, for adidas...

The blockbuster ad continues the comic book style that was introduced into adidas' advertising last year. Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi also return in this new spot, and are joined by David Villa. The emphasis in the new ad is all about speed, specifically the speed of the new adidas F50 adiZero boot (which both Messi and Villa will be wearing during the World Cup). The official World Cup ball, designed by adidas, can be seen in the ad too.

Below is also a rather nice film showing the new boot being manufactured:

Just a load of pretty techniques.

I thought this was quite good but did look a little like a computer game intro as there seemed to be a lot of computer generated visuals involved rather than natural beautiful style camera work but there were some really good bits too.

this seems a video game concept to me and I think nowadays it's a good call.

stupid, overly self-important like a deep-voiced mock movie trailer, and instantly forgettable with it's vast array of randomly edited 'wtf is going on?' shots.

I really like the actual football bits - especially the flying tackle coming in behind Messi amongst the clawing arms - but the bits with Zidane in a car don't seem to add much. The Zidane 'character' seems like an attempt to follow Nike's use of Eric Cantona - now ZZ was a far superior player to Eric but nowhere near as cool!

The boot is a munter too - oh for the glory days of the black Adidas Kaiser boot with 3 simple stripes down the side.

Pretty fast but doesn't do it for me.

A kind of mixture of Film, Arcade Game, Comics (Sin City)

And why having Zidane.....confusing overall.

Boring- expensive, overdone, bloated, and forgettable. they managed to drain all the beauty and excitement out of the event.

Football is theatre, art, war and passion. I think the ad captures that nicely. Loving where the assistant referee has his flag down for Villa it's the little touches like that give it a bit of football cred too. Would love to see it in a cinema actually!

Yeah Rizwan, I reckon it is better. A very different style of ad. But it certainly made me feel more emotion.

Comic books are a real hype nowadays so I think that Adidas made a good decision with this advertising. The boots look good too!

The making of is more interesting than the main add; Far more interesting and not (unlike the main advert) a yawn inducing sequence of cool effects.

wtf this spot make no sense to me, were two spots mixed up in the cut? getting weary of green-screen / sin city vibe these days. feels nothing. sadly soccer iconic spots like tarsems good vrs evil seem to be over

Intro sounds like Enrico Morricone's instrumental "The Man with the Harmonica" as used as a Knights of Cydonia intro by Muse at live gigs.
