The analogue Facebook

In a promotion for French telecommunications company Bouygues Télécom, DDB Paris recently devised a way to take your Facebook profile offline...
The agency realised that while people may share their most treasured memories and photographs via Facebook, the constantly changing nature of the site means that they can quickly be forgotten, or lost amongst the amount of info stored in a profile. So Bouygues Télécom created the option of turning your Facebook profile into an actual book.

Participants could pick up to ten friends to include in their book, and also pick the timeframe covered, whether it be a birthday, wedding or other significant event. As these images of Francis Peric's book show, the styling of the books were also thoroughly in keeping with Facebook's look. The application was a huge success, with the limited edition run of 1,000 books all requested within one hour.

The film below shows the app in more detail:

I feel like my mind has been invaded. I'm doing the exact same thing for my girlfriend as a Christmas present.

I think as a gift I would hate this. I would really feel as though my privacy was invaded.
2010-11-26 14:18:33
haha it's not private when it's on facebook anyway!
2010-11-26 14:21:24
Surely they could have formatted this better rather than make it look like a book of screenshots.

I'm with @stripeyhorse and @Sergethew.
Really struggling to see the appeal beyond the novelty value and the design could and should have had more thought put into it, it's far too obvious.

Nice as a snapshot of all the informal contact that flies around during special life events. Does feel a little flat though, and unfortunately reminds me too much of http://www.postegram.com ...not a good thing!
I'm a much bigger fan of Diesel's Facepark which totally subverts the format http://www.facepark.org/

VERY COOL!

This depends greatly on your opinion of Facebook's interface. Love the cover and title page, but after that it becomes nothing more than a print out.

It's a shame they only made 1000. Hopefully a trend will continue?

Problem is that 99% of FB status updates are completely inane... turn that into a book to represent someone's life and you might as well tell them they've got about as much depth as a Pot Noodle.
"Hey, here's a gift... the book of "you". It's the last 3 months of your puke inducing yippety yap, YouTube links and Farmville activity. Hope you like it!"
However there's something in this idea if the execution was steered away from profound.

I think it's a nice idea. Often I have wanted to "freeze" an update in Facebook so it doesn't get lost in the feed and everyone who I wanted to see it could. This partly addresses the issue; not necessarily completely solving it.
Also, I wonder how they dealt with the low screen resolution in print. Did it just come out low resolution and that's it?

For all that I dislike faceache (facebook) I like this... for once, oh yes.
You would think that the plural of status would be statusi or stati? yes it is correct as "statuses"
in US English and others.

2011-08-04 11:35:42

2011-08-22 20:26:26
If that book were sold in a store - it would sell out in like 4 minutes. That's awesome. I hope Facebook comes up with something like that soon :-)

I just love the idea of having a book stand full of Facebooks. I would have one for my family and another for my friends - how lovely. Maybe new business idea?
2011-12-24 23:36:29
What a wonderful way to create a gift for a friend - or a relative. Perfect tips!
