When you flush the toilet do you ever pause to wonder where it all goes? Well, wonder no more. Flushtracker has the answer

Created by Lean Mean Fighting Machine for the World Toilet Organisation and Domestos, to promote World Toilet Day, Flushtracker tracks your, errm, deposit, as it wends its way through the sewage system.

Simply put in your postcode and marvel as the epic journey begins. Actually, this bit gets very boring as poo likes to take its own sweet time in reaching its ultimate destination but Flushtracker has thought of that – your poo will email you to update you on its progress. When it has reached its destination, you can review the entire journey.

So, we had a go. Our demo poo (not a real one you understand) departed from Soho early afternoon. By 4pm it had travelled 5 miles and, by just after 5pm it had covered 9.5 miles, reaching the London Waste plant in Edmonton having travelled under Tottenham Court Road, Camden Road, through Seven Sisters, left at Tottenham Hale and under the North Circular.

There is a serious point to all this: Apart from bringing home just how amazing Britain's largely Victorian sewage system is (you can also use it in other countries), Flushtracker also aims to raise awareness of the fact that 40% of the world's population lacks access to basic sanitation. World Toilet Day is on November 19.

Is there anything you can't do on the internet, makes the mind marvel. Joking aside the Victorian engineering that pervades our country is quite stunning considering its age!

I want that shit in layar too. I want to be able to point my phone at the pavement and see augmented poo bobbing along in full 3d.

Fun idea though - it just raised my awareness so there you go.

Just one more reason to regret I live in the Netherlands, at the moment. Which reminds me... Flushtracker is great for any occasion when you somehow have to dump some illegal substance into your toilet. Just remember the time you flushed, get online, and find the next convenient place to retrieve it!

When one dumps something particularly awful inthe bowly), should we attach a letter of (like the morning after a curry), should we send a letter of apology 'To who it may concern'? Can they actually return to sender with comments? Boy, my kids and I are all excited, tracking down our latest offspring through the countryside. that's the spirit of Christmas, the family together. Then my wife will come back home later and ask: So what have you done with the kids today?

@O Black; hell yeah! A friend of mine had this idea as well! Moreover, I was just thinking it would also be convenient if you somehow could connect it to the toilets in the pubs... Perhaps we should get in contact about this?
