Don't think for a mo-ment that the prostate cancer awareness campaign, Movember, has passed by unnoticed here at CR towers. On the contrary, our art director, Paul Pensom is nurturing a fine looking moustache to raise money for the cause – so fine, in fact, it won a prize in The Telegraph's Early Growth competition...

Above, CR's Paul Pensom's moustache, day 18

Also raising money for the cause are these posters (above and below), created collaboratively by image maker Shotopop and copywriter Pieter Rossouw. According to the above poster, Paul's moustche is shaping up to be a classic Hunts Man.

In case you can't read the copy at the top of the posters, it reads thus:

In the beginning God created Adam. And from Adam's top lip He let sprout a Mo. At that moment, God created man. Henceforth the mighty symbol of virility and strength carried man to his destiny. Neither grand king nor fearless warrior would dare set foot on battlefield without his burly banner of top lip bristle. Yes it is even said that without his Mo, Alexander the Great, was simply called Al. And that the only reason Genghis Khan was made ruler of the entire Mongol Empire, was because he could sprout a Mo at will. So man of today, be you not afraid of ridicule, make you not your naked face the norm. Grow your Mo proud and grow it long. Because, it is your destiny!

The A3 prints will be sold up to November 30 via centralillustration.com at £20 a pop, with all proceeds going to to Movember.

Just mo'info to add to this subject while we are at it..

"Only about one in 10 prostate cancers detected by screening actually poses a threat to a man's life, according to a new analysis conducted by researchers from the University if Cambridge".

"A common prostate cancer treatment may significantly increase men's risk of heart problems, according to a study conducted by researchers from King's College London and presented at a joint meeting of the European Cancer Organization and the European Society for Medical Oncology in Berlin".

"If none of the men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer were ever treated, 97 percent of them would still survive the disease, according to a study conducted by Swedish researchers and published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute".

"As many as 50 percent of all prostate cancer diagnoses may be cases of over-diagnosis, according to a study published in the British Medical Journal".

Funny how these cancer fear marketers never tell the whole story..

Fair play to everyone involved in Movember, it really is a great cause.

I was going to go for a variation on The Holy Man - the 'Ming the Merciless', but my pitiful attempts at facial hair have meant I had to abort at an early stage.

@daprof

I hardly think Movember qualifies as 'cancer fear marketers'. The primary messages are of fun and awareness of men's health, physical and mental. That's why Movember is such a good idea, the miserable worthy charity bit (which you seem to relish) is replaced by man's greatest skill - taking the piss.

Prostate cancer might not be a mass-killer, but I know that I don't want cancer up my bum or in my balls. And if growing a (very poor) moustache can raise money for charity or make men (myself included) more comfortable with consulting a doctor, then I'm all for it.

Go the mo!

Movember is a light hearted way to raise awareness. Men are stupid when it comes to seeing doctors so any help can only be a good thing.... they're hardly cancer fear marketers!

Anyway I'm growing a comedy moustache for Movember.

You can check out my efforts at: http://ngdagency.wordpress.com/

And if you want to donate please go to my mo space: http://uk.movember.com/mospace/695864/

:-) All hail the Mo!

We think Movember has been one of the best cancer awareness profile raising activities in recent years.
In an office full of ladies we never thought we'd be getting facial hair envy, but we've seen some amazing creations.

We'd like to see more though email pics to emma@vue-us.com

Can I be a little bit bold and extend this hirstute theme a tad further? For another great hairy initiative check out the dudes in the Beards of Manchester 2011 charity calender: http://beardsofmanchester.com

Just launched and featuring Manchester's most outstanding beards and taches, all money from calender sales go to the Lifeshare charity.

Many thanks :-)
