For the new D&AD call for entries, this year's President, Sanky, has come over all, um, presidential, offering a global address on the importance of creativity (and of D&AD, natch)...

The call-for-entries campaign, which was created by Work Club, was initially trailed by an enigmatic email stating that Sanky had a question for all creatives that would be revealed today at 12pm GMT. The email was sent to over 50,000 ad and design creatives worldwide.

The reveal was released just moments ago, and takes viewers to the D&AD YouTube channel, where Sanky delivers his call to arms for creativity, in 13 different languages no less.

More speeches will follow as the campaign progresses. Watch out for Sanky's hair in the future ones, as it will get progressively whiter, in line with leaders all over the world. For info on D&AD, visit dandad.org.

This has needed to be said for some time. I haven't been designing for very long (about a decade) but have seen a trend of the downplaying of the importance of design and creativity in the world of design practice and especially business practice (where lots of us work inhouse).

Where there was career paths for designers when I started out - junior, middleweight, senior etc now most design jobs are at one level, managed by managers not designers and creative output is far the worse for it.

Much of this negative downplaying of skills comes from within the design industry itself but I have long thought D&AD needs to champion designers and creatives skills and concentrate less on the elitism of individual accolades and more on supporting all creatives regardless of profile or sexyness of work.

I'll renew my membership this week if D&AD are going to support all creatives and speak out when it is needed.

Cheers,
Sam

Most cringeworthy and cheesiest thing I've seen in a good while. Is this really the best we can come up with?

Oh dear ... 'our standards are high', 'a call to arms', if this campaign wins any D&AD award I'll be wondering about the 'high standards'. I feel for you Sanky, I think its a shame that they made it look like a joke, I would have preferred to be treated with a more genuine 'call to arms', maybe in a more serious respectable tone. But to be honest, I don't think I remember seeing any other 'call for entries', so I suppose this might work. Good luck. J
