This stop-motion ad for Mark Ronson's new album Record Collection features a variety of his musical collaborators in toy form
"We worked with a really talented toy customiser called Stuart Witter to create custom dolls of Mark and a number of his collaborators from the album, including Q-Tip, MNDR, Wiley, Boy George and Simon Le Bon," explains Sony creative director Phil Clandillon. "We used off the shelf 1:6 scale dolls and modified the joints by wiring them so they could be moved fluidly for animation. A stylist called Lizzie Burns created really nicely detailed 1:6 scale clothing for them and we built a mixture of 1:12 and 1:6 scale sets out of found toys and also some custom made bits."

The sculpture and styling is undoubtedly fantastic, great craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Can't help but feel the childplay/toy animation concept seems a little unoriginal... All a bit Adam & Joe, perhaps. Still, nice to make an event of an album commercial for a change, rather than just a lazy mish-mash of music videos.

I really love this - great execution, lo-fi in style but polished and performed so skillfully it is pure charm.

Whilst undoubtedly well made. I can't help but think the kid's VO doesn't really lend to the target demographic, which I am guessing is 16-25. But I may be totally off the mark with this :)
That said, well done for doing something different ...and getting a record label to do something which isn't just a load of shiny 3d bullshit. Would love to know the budget ;)

Great video. Pure and fresh with the music to match. Boy George is spot on...

Takes 'toymation' to new heights!

@Stuart. I'm in the target audience and I think the child's voice is great. It's different to the average trendy Essex-tinged accent you usually hear on adverts and it's kitch to match the visuals. It also ties together the idea that Mark is creating this ideal as part of a childhood fantasy with his little sister's toys. It's sweet and 20-ish year olds can relate to it.

I feel using a child for the narration was misplaced. I would much prefer a juxtaposition between the low-fidelity stop motion and a polished narration.

Reminds me of Mansun.
