From the series Windows, 2009
Mexican taxi driver-turned-photographer Oscar Fernando Gomez uses the window of his cab to frame life on the streets of Monterey. His work is currently showing as part of this year's Brighton Photo Biennial, curated by Martin Parr.
Gomez began by photographing weddings, using the money earnt from driving a cab to supplement his income. He started documenting the urban life of Monterey when he and his wife decided to have a child, to make a record of what he saw each day. Tragically, his daughter died just after birth, but Gomez continued the project, capturing both the joys and the struggles that he witnesses driving around the city.

Gomez's images form part of the New Ways of Looking exhibition, on show at the Former Co-operative Department Store in Brighton, as part of the Biennial. The exhibition continues until November 14, all info is at bpb.org.uk.
