The Fashion Illustration Gallery is to present a show of the work of René Gruau, the "20th Century’s greatest fashion illustrator"

Gruau found fame with his work for his friend Christian Dior (which is the subject of a separate, larger show at Somerset House in November). The FIG show, however, concentrates on his work for International Textiles which, according to the gallery, was "the world’s first ever international rag trade magazine". The works date from 1946 to 1984.

René Gruau, Covert Art/International Textiles Magazine is at the The Mayor Gallery, 22A Cork Street, London W1 from November 5 until December 4. Full details on the Fashion Illustration Gallery site here

Striking, elegant, poised and dynamic. I love the underwhelming detail. Beautiful (=

Really like this style -- thick brushstrokes, not over done. Simple design, but the mood and feeling is expressed fully. Thanks for posting these!

I love these. There's an illustrator called David Downton who carries on the tradition. He worked with me on a campaign for HELLO! magazine 10 years ago and did a wonderful job.
