More puntastic postcards

We posted a story last year about a series of punning postcards created for Harvey Nichols' Foodmarket. The same agency, mr. h, has now produced a new set in time for Christmas

Some readers were quick to point out the similarity between the original set of cards (posted here) and a long-running campaign for Italian supermarket Esselunga. Despite this, many of you loved them, so we thought we'd show you the new set, also written and designed by Ruan Milborrow and Mark Nightingale.

Nice, although Goose/Bruce Forsythe looks more like Jimmy Hill.

Simple and effective (at least for middle-class, middle-aged + people!) - however totally unoriginal and not exactly aspirational or luxe enough for Harvey Nicks. Must have been those budget restraints at play again? At least my grandparents will smile when they edge their way round the food hall. Good old Brucey will remind them of their youth!

First Wallace and Gromit, now this.

Creative Review, it is sep-bloody-tember, not Christmas. Kindly desist.

Your right Ed its way to early for this stuff! My local pub has been advertising their christmas specials since mid August!
Having said that I do like the design, it may not be too original but it is fun. Brussel Crowe is the best!

Nicky you put the itch in b*tch for that comment!

I think they're a nice bit of fun and probably right up the street of the HN market.

Its very similar to the campaign for Italian supermarket; Esselunga.

Check out Nickys blog and you'll see why she made those comments... she obviously thinks she's the don of design... shame she's not.

Agree with JW- nice bit of fun.

I don't see how anyone could knock these. They're good, simple, well executed fun. And while Brucie may be old, he is watched by millions every week on that silly dancing programme. It's all far better than the usual navel gazing, trying too hard, self consciously trendy ads we get from HN these days.

Ahhhh! Christmas! Out come last year's baubles, passed down from the Italian in-laws! I hope Mr H go to Milan and do their Christmas shopping in Esselunga to pay back the favour.

As has been said - fun, simple, effective... but I don't think I'd have been able to guess many of the slebs if the names hadn't been written underneath... so perhaps well-executed is a push? Though they do look like the result of a post-turkey family drawing game, so that's nice.

As originator of this campaign, I feel that I ought to respond. I first conceived these characters for Harvey Nichols as press ads in 1995 - they won a Campaign Press Award Silver in 1996. This I believe was a long time before Esselunga 'came up' with their idea.
