The Hyeres International Festival of Fashion & Photography opens on April 29. Along with exhibitions of the work of Erwin Blumenfeld and Raf Simons, ten young photographers show their images and compete for a one-year scholarship to SVA in New York
Each year, the Hyeres festival in southern France provides a platform for young photographers to show their work, meet potential commissioners and collaborators and to win valuable prizes. This year, the main award is of a one-year scholarship to the Photo Global programme of the School of Visual Arts in New York. Competing for the prize will be:
Andrey Bogush from Russia/Finland (image shown top and below)

Kim Boske from The Netherlands

Émile Hyperion Dubuisson from France/USA

Katarina Elvén from Sweden

Ina Jang from South Korea/USA

Anouk Kruithof from The Netherlands/Germany

Mårten Lange from Sweden/UK

Marie Quéau from France

Awoiska van der Molen from The Netherlands

And Marc Philip van Kempen from The Netherlands/Germany

This shortlisted ten have been chosen by a jury from an initial free-to-enter competition. Each photographer then receives a grant to print and frame his or her work which is exhibited throughout the festival. They also receive funding to attend the festival where they have to talk through their portfolio with each of the ten photography judges over two days. As a judge last year, I can attest that it's a pretty gruelling process (for both parties) but a very thorough and rigorous way of deciding a winner. Good luck to all this year.
