Apple welcomes you to Grand Central

To promote the opening of its new shop in Grand Central station, Apple has installed a giant digital version of the traditional split-flap train schedule board using 58 computer display monitors
Each letter appears to flip into place to reveal a series of headlines, including "Only one bar in Grand Central has Geniuses." ,"Drop off your Mac at 8:42. Pick it up at 6:29." "Grab an iPod touch. You'll wish your commute was longer." and "Soon, missing your train won't be so bad."

And if that wasn't enough, the issue also includes a FREE paper toy for readers to cut out and customise.

Grand Central is seen as a tourist attraction aswell as a train station, meaning the foot fall will be nearing the million mark daily. Some people may even regard flag ship Apple stores as tourist attractions due to the extravagant designs and architecture.
It is probably a good move by apple, it would be interesting to see how many purchases are an impulse purchase by a commuter,

The screens are so great and i love the use of language on them as well. Plus the scale of the hold shop cover is just beautiful.
The foot fall is going to be massive, would be interesting to see how this effects sales and so on.

I was there a couple of days ago only to see the black curtained off space currently looking like a mausoleum, not excitement building at all. It was disappointing to see that an iconic architectural space like this being sold off to another retailer - making any escape from the arcade of shops downstairs and outside, now impossible. I suppose at least its Apple who've secured it rather than brand that would be more aesthetically loud. But still, it crushed the sense of "the golden age of travel" for me entirely. Is nowhere safe?

Simply a great idea and integrates with the surrounding train station environment. One of the best signage ideas I have seen recently...

Nice idea but its always nicer to be very accurate when you play appropiation (like i often do). Type is usually bigger and bolder inside each box. It would be more legible too.
