Does the world really need a new cook book? Probably not. However, smoothie brand innocent's new recipe book, entitled Hungry? (published by 4th Estate, £20) really is rather good. Warning: this post may make you hungry!

The book is aimed at families with small children and, as well as over 100 recipes for straight forward dishes - some healthy and some indulgent treats - it is choc-full of helpful info like how to test for a good or bad egg, and an easy to read chart of what food is seasonal when. And there's plenty of fun stuff for kids to enjoy, such as the particularly excellent tips for how to make your popcorn last through an entire DVD. Also of note is the photography by Clare Shilland and the on-brand witty captions and copy in general – a trait which is one of innocent's strongest brand assets. Here a selection of spreads:

Couldn't resist a close up of this page. It's a picture of a burger but the caption references a Gavin. How do the guys at innocent know I'm all about the burgers?

Unsurprisingly there's a whole section devoted to fruit – and there's also a dedicated drinks section too, which includes a patented "wee-ometer" - a graphic guide to help you work out whether or not you're drinking enough water by checking the colour of your wee:

Yet another nice touch - a pocket on the inside back cover, perfect for... well, you can read it for yourself.

We also very much like the 10 Commandments of Washing Up tea towel that came with the book (above).

Creatively well designed book, good used of typography, flat colours and I just love vector graphics. Thumps up Innocent :)

Lovely book, I like how they've used very simple colour and graphics to give a nod towards the Innocent philosophy. The clever and unfussy delivery of content and wording is a big win too. Well done - great book!

I literally read the first few paragraphs and went and bought it straight away. An amazing looking book written with inncocent's great tone of voice and I hope some tasty recipes. If not then it looks like a good read anyway so I don't mind too much.

£5 on amazon! FANTASTIC!

It's a nice bit of brand extension from a really creative and unique company. I thought the brand was getting a little tired and I'm not such a fan of the new product launches, but this is a lovely off-shoot which reiterates why people love the original branding and products.

You're right. Bang on brand. I'd like to teach the world to sing... Coca Cola brand I mean. Make um think we're nice people really.

Bit like wee-wee, different shade of same colour...

Bored.

It's a long time since I have seen a recipe book I would like because it's so easy to search by ingredient on the internet. So - great idea to push it a bit further and make it entertaining.

a bit smarmy and low brow..... the expanding gland of a brand wants to be a friend in your home ..... I think more designers will buy this book than anyone intending to use it to cook with and I can't imagine any of them wanting to get spaghetti sauce on it or a greasy thumbprint...... and I like to keep urine and cooking well separated even notionally.

What a great idea! such a useful book... will be on my shopping list!
