A blockbuster new ad for Adidas brings together the brand's sports sub-brands with the Originals brand for the first time. Featuring stars from Lionel Messi and David Beckham to Derrick Rose and Katy Perry, the spot aims to promote the idea that when you love your game, whatever that game may be, you put your all into it.
The spot is the first major campaign from Montreal-based agency Sid Lee for Adidas since it was announced as lead agency for the whole brand last year. The commercial draws on Sid Lee's previous House Party spot for Adidas Originals, which also brought together a wide range of stars for the brand. Here the action is harder-edged, and has more sports emphasis, but has a similar documentary feel, with shots of Adidas-wearing kids mixed in with the sports and music stars.
Directed by Romain Gavras, the spot is set to the track Civilization by French electronic band Justice (and is a reunion between the director and the musicians after their controversial collaboration for the video for Stress). It will appear on TV and in cinemas and a longer version, shown above, has also been released online. A number of shorter films and other content, as well as competitions, will also appear on the adidas site as part of the campaign.

I fucking like this ad. Alot. But why Katy Perry??? Other than that, it's a very inspiring piece. Hats off.

wow - completely underwhelmed, really didn't do anything for me.
The soundtrack is the saving grace, the front 2/3's of the vision is a bit too meandering, the climax works reasonably well.
The one shot I liked was the skateboarder jumping off the side of the builiding into the pool, it was the only shot that said ALL IN. Perhaps because it was because it was a bit more extreme?

Saw these yesterday split up into smaller ad-breaks on TV. An attention grabber to say the least.

music = cool, ad = rubbish

Nice Nike ad
... hey wait a minute

It's a moodfilm. And not a great one. Feel like I've seen all this so many times before, from NIke and adi.
Is there an idea in this?
Should have stayed with 180...

Doesn't pack the punch I was hoping for, perhaps the doco style isn't so appropriate here. I agree with GDBoss above in that a lot of the shots aren't 'ALL IN'.
Generally I think a lot of the shots are too wide to catch the raw emotion and adrenaline of some of the epic moments that are there for the taking in the footage.
I do like the inclusive feel of the ad in terms of the spectrum of people, both famous and otherwise but I think the 'individual' gets lost and their aspirations are too disparate to promote the campaign's message.

Wow...One too many bummed 180'ans here or what... Still, the 120 is too long. But the 60 f..ing rocks. Goosebumps.

It's trying too hard. All this 'street' malarkeyh is starting to look hackneyed. Why not put William Hague in it, wearing a basball cap? I'm sticking to Asics Tiger.

I like it, makes me feel excited. Maybe its just the music. Justice is always good.

Another real shameless compilation of sport clichés, this time with a cliché techno gentrified "rebel" music that tries to trick you by breaking your hears so you don't realise it's just another commercial trying to sell you stuff you don't need made by kids in India. Gavras is such a rebel again.

The boy in the white, blue and orange jacket is NEXT BIG THING

I've liked the adidas brand, even before it got real trendy. But, this advert doesn't do it for me :(

It disappointed me... I felt like the skate, soccer and American football shots really didn't go that well together. Plus there was no story. I would have just liked to see only Lionel Messi star in the ad.

so apparently girls can only either dance, sing or cheerlead! interesting point of view monsieur gavras...
as bad as his movies.

looked good on the big screen, but for such a big brand with so many massive names, it leaves a lot to be desired. Wasted opportunity.

I'm so glad to see another commenter picked up on the girls only dance and cheerlead aspect of this ad. Its really quite horrendous. I wrote a piece about the ad here: http://fb.me/yiLxZkDd. Please check it out!
