Ice Cream video for Battles

Music Video / Film

Spanish directing team Canada adopt the quick-fire editing of their earlier work for a new video for Battles, employing ice cream, paint and naughtiness in the process...

Fans of the Barcelona-based directing team will appreciate their new offering, which boasts a similar glut of fast-cut imagery to their previous video for El Guincho track, Bombay (watch it here).

Ice Cream features a host of short, disparate bursts of surrealism and makes good use of overlaying footage of the band, not to mention summery saturated colours. The directors clearly have a thing for liquids. And nudity.

Canada are represented by Partizan and you can see their portfolio of film work here.

The Creative Review Annual is out now, published as a special 196-page double edition with our May issue and featuring the best work of the year in advertising and graphic design. I want to make a music video just like THIS. Awesome.

Great editing and some excellent shots of karate vs ice cream.

It's well shot, but I don't really like it at all. It almost looks like a propaganda film for Battles to prove that girls can like their music too (sponsored by American Apparel)!

I can just imagine every context-less (but nice-looking) scene being converted into a .gif and posted on Tumblr. Which isn't really a terrible thing, I suppose, but it just makes the whole video feel really ephemeral. There's about 3 or 4 really great moments but it's cheapened by the gratuitous slow-mo shots of "laydeez doing sexy things" (which Canada pretty much did to death in the El Guincho video, which is way too similar to this).

@Dan. Why would you want to make a video like this? It's already been made...

@Weston. Agreed. I was expressing my jealousy of this video's 'awesomeness'.
As Canada are obviously inspired by David Lynch (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9JcC4DPTSM) in the fight scene at 3:40. I also find this video inspiring.

Not sure why this video is so hyped, doesn't seem all that interesting to me.

I was bored by it, to be honest. Nothing necessarily wrong with it, just didn't appeal to me. Don't get the hype.
