Dare's horror films for B&Q
Posted by Gavin Lucas, 27 May 2011, 12:41 Permalink Comments (7)
Iconic scenes from classic horror films (including the famous shower scene from Hitchcock's Psycho, above) are parodied in a new series of online films for DIY store B&Q by agency Dare.
Just as you expect something horrific to happen, the considerably less frightening prospect of a spot of DIY manifests itself – as does the strapline, "DIY doesn't have to be scary".
As well as the Psycho film, Tobe Hooper's 1982 fright fest Poltergeist gets spoofed:
As does the famous "Here's Johnny" scene from Stanley Kubrick's The Shining...
The films promote B&Q's Do It Together instore weekend demos designed to free folk of their fear of DIY.

Nice one. Much better than your usual DIY adverts. Reminds me a little of the Homebase ADs a few years back where they tried something different...

These are some of the worst ads i have seen in years. Why would you put frosted glass on your toilet door? I can see the strobe lights reflecting in the tv screen too.. oh dear

Have you never seen frosted glass on a toilet door? its contemporary. Believe it or not Its actually used quite a lot. I have never seen the film but I presume they're not reflections of the strobe light.... take a look at the actual film footage http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9aENGodu5A

A fellow graduate of mine in 1981 from Coventry Uni (then Lanchester Polytechnic) did almost EXACTLY the same spoof with Psycho - he filmed his version with our life drawing model but using the original soundtrack
his was for ZEST soap - whose strapline at the time was "Zest, bringing you back to life"

Definitely better than Lenny Henry's Psycho for Premier Inn! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_EGCSFHnfY
