Last year hat brand New Era introduced a new competition for art and design students to create an artwork based on one of their baseball style caps. This year the company held a similar competition, entitled New Era Introducing, and 23 year old Lina Al-Amoudi from Sharjah, United Arab Emirates has won a £10,000 bursary for her winning illustrative design (above) based on the tale of the Queen of Sheba...
The hat design is made up of four carved and interlocking pieces of wood which together tell the story behind the Queen's leadership of the Sabaen Kingdom. Al-Amoudi hopes to use her prize bursary to help her achieve her goal of doing an MA in Communication Design at London's Central Saint Martins College of Art. Here's a short film showing her create the winning hat desgin:
Al-Amoudi's winning design, along with a number of carefully selected entries, all created by students from around the world, will be showcased in a touring exhibition that starts in London next month and ends up in Dubai in March next year having visited Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm and Cape Town.
Here are some of the cap designs that will also be shown in the touring exhibition.

This broken skateboard design was created by Javier Rodrequez Garcia from Spain

This ancient looking design is by Italy's Massimo Tomasino

Matt Saunders from the UK created this bear-based design, using a lot of matchsticks

The touring exhibition kicks off in London and will show for two days (November 4-5) at Shoreditch Underground, Pedley Street, E1 5ER. More information about the New Era Introducing scheme and details of the touring exhibition can be found at neweraintroducing.com
