Start-up T-shirt brand Don't Talk to Me About Heroes is giving a new lease of life to the images of some of our greatest music photographers

The site was set up by Aki Paphides, a graphic designer and brother of rock journalist Pete Paphides. Paphides says that, as a kid, he was such a music obsessive that he would remember the names of the photographers who took pictures of his favourite bands and would follow their work.

When setting up the site, he had a 'hit list' of those he remembered, including the likes of Brian Griffin and Richard Mann. Don't Talk To Me About Heroes has now signed up 12 music photographers for its T-shirt range, many of whom have released images that have not been published before. T-shirts cost £25 with the revenue split 50/50 between the site and the photographers.

Debbie Harry by Howard Barlow

Brian May by Brian Griffin

Iggy Pop by Brian Griffin

"You don't see images like this anymore," argues Paphides, citing the fact that, previously, photographers had time to build relationships with the bands they followed and earn their trust. The threat to great music photography is something we've written about before at CR in this piece from October 2008, Three Songs and Yer Out

Bobby Womack by David Corio

Television's Tom Verlaine by Howard Barlow

Paul Simonon by Phil Nicholls

Mick Jagger by Philip Townsend

Michael Jackson by Richard E Aaron

It's such a shame that we don't see images like this anymore, they seemed to have a soul to their photographs back in the day. Now it's a cheeky snap hiding behind a car.

really really fantastic images; however, other than the considerably more stylistic Sid Vicious print I'm not convinced they work so well as t-shirts. I suspect the licensing deal with the photographers may rule out any minor graphical tweaks to the images; which is a shame as the framing on the full color Iggy Pop photo reminds me of an iffy Snappy Snaps t-shirt print type deal. Five minutes in Photoshop could have worked wonders.

Evening Geoff......The deal with the photographers actually allows us to tweak and work on the the images as we see fit, but in many cases there is very little need to as the images are immaculate, If there was any "photoshopping" to be done i can assure you that it would take a lot more than five minutes......

The designs are very simple, but the simplicity is the selling point. The Brian May print is my favourite, you immediatley know its him just from the considerable amount of hair.

Strange, they are all on the same T-Shirt?!

@aki
I am in no way suggesting the photos (which I sincerely love!) need tabloid style airbrushing or overzealous graphical makeovers.
However, just getting rid of the black rectangular framing on the black Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Tom Verlaine shirts would be so very very easy.

Great photos and the images are nice and clear on the tees. I wonder if the printing will reproduce them as well as they appear here?
