Shortcut scrubbing reveals Lynx Effect

Advertising, Digital

A female TV reporter falls under the spell of the 'Lynx Effect' thanks to the use of 'shortcut scrubbing' to play around with the action in a laddish YouTube video

If users click on the YouTube progress bar and press the keys 5, 7, 3, 8, lo and behold, the femal reporter .... well try it for yourself. Agency Razorfish is claiming that this is the first time that the 'shortcut scrubbing' technique has been used in an ad.

It may not be the most edifying piece of content you'll ever find on CR, and we apologise if any readers are offended, but it will no doubt prove a hit with Lynx's adolescent target market.

Technically - mildly interesting. Creatively - the kind of humourless sexist shite the creative industries could do without.

It's a shame Lynx smells sooo bad, as their ads are usually pretty good....

Didn't Sprite already used this trick?

Are you suppose to not notice the clown in the background? Despite being a 21 year old male I didn't find a woman crouching in front of a mans crotch so transfixing that I was unable to take my eyes off it! Also I seem to remember a video where you have to count people playing basketball then something moonwalks across the pitch unnoticed. Pretty much the same idea only much better.

And the whole pressing 5,7,3,8 is pretty lame, what exactly is the lynx effect? Making women magnetically drawn towards your crotch? Pretty sure your not suppose to spray it there.

Im in their target demographic and im not impressed at being treated like an idiot repeatedly. Lynx is a brand I will never buy

Adolescent is right. Even if this is the first time the scrubbing's been used on a mainstream ad, so what? It doesn't feel 'new' - or fresh - in the slightest. Much like Lynx. Shame to go from the glory of the falling angels campaign to something smutty and cheap.

I have to agree with Fran. Pretty bad effort... just cheap! I am not even sure it will prove a hit with Lynx's adolescent target market.

I found it quite funny, but I've always been a fan of juvenile humour... probably a result of watching too much Men Behaving Badly in my formative years :)

maybe i just don't get it, but it didn't seem to do anything particularly different to just watching the video.
