A studio life in 42 pictures

Ashwin Patel of Grid London has produced a rather elegant print featuring some of the elements common to a typical design studio, covering everything from 'pressure' and 'cutbacks', to that well known 'spinning' wheel...
A Studio Life is an A2 lithographic print in Saphira Posidry Black on GF Smith Colourplan Vellum white (135gsm). It is available to buy through the Grid shop at gridlondon.bigcartel.com for £28 plus P&P. See also gridlondon.com.
Ah, the claw of envy...

Fixies and moustaches.. Really? We're sticking with that?

i wish this wasn't getting attention. it's cute, but it's self-referential and masturbatory. everything that happens within a studio isn't precious and hallowed - the design industry needs to get over itself.
this amounts to a shark-jump for design.

@Spencer It's not legible in these pics, but the fixie stands for 'egos', the moustache 'deception', so I think it's slightly tongue in cheek

Elegant and simple in its message. Ticks the boxes of most high brow design tastes. @nomiscreative

Nice treatment. But I really wish CR would leave these sorts of self gratifying things to the trend blogs.

Masturbatory? Perhaps. But more self-referential humour. That's what was intended anyway… Sorry to hear @Colin you feel what happens within a studio isn't precious. It's of course not hallowed but it's certainly special to me… and to all the people I've worked with and the studios I've had the privilege of being in, a studio life (to me) is something to cherish.
A little hyped yes, but there's nothing wrong with having a high opinion on the industry you work in. Best part of it all… it was so much fun creating.

It looks remarkably similar to the wonderful 42 Below Vodka adverts from a few years ago...

It's elegant, gentle, tongue in cheek - what's not to like? I like that aspects of studio life are worth noting - this isn't a feature length documentary after all, it's a quiet lithograph.

Beautiful type treatment Ashwin.

"And this was my experience on a placement in a graphic design studio " .

So elegantly composed and a great mix of the everyday stuff and the more intangible elements of the studio life that we all know and love. Another beautiful print from Grid London, great job Ashwin and keep them coming!

Yes Charlee, I agree. I must add it has a beautiful balance of colours too:)
