E20 12: Under Construction
Showing as part of the London Festival of Architecture later this month is an exhibition of large-format photographs by Giles Price that combines aerial images of the Olympic Park with portraits of the workforce there...
The images in E20 12: Under Construction were taken over the past two years, and show all the major sites in the Olympic Park during construction. The exhibition will be on at The Crossing in King's Cross from June 26 until July 8; shown below is a selection of the works that will be shown.
Jagmindald Singh Grewal, a landscaper
Velodrome and BMX Track
Andrew Leakey, a foreman
Ray Gilbert, a groundworker
Media Centre and Hockey Pitches
Dean Thomas, a hard landscaper
Jamie Thomas, a groundworker
Warm up Tracks and Greenway
Piotr Suyryk, a landscape gardener
Brilliant! I love Giles work. His 'Many parts make motor city' piece for the Detroit Issue of Boat Mag was my favourite section of that issue. The portraits become all the more immediate when seen alongside the context of a removed aerial view.
What a unique approach to covering the 2012 Olympic games! Getting to see the individual people who are making it happen at the most basic level is so inspiring and brings a real sense of reality to the entire process. Its so easy to forget all the work that goes into this truly amazing spectacle.
I write for an online magazine called GreatDesign.com and we are running a series at the moment highlighting some of the best up and coming athletes from this Olympics. Last week we featured Claressa Shields, a 17 year old girl who will be competing in the first ever Olympic Women's Boxing event. I thought you might be interested in reading our piece, too.
Keep up the great work, and when I get to London I'll have to check out this exhibition!

Wonderful photographs. They really capture what is taking place in preparation for the olympics. I haven't seen anything like this in all the tv and photographic coverage for the games so far. It's wonderful to see images of the groundworkers doing all the hard work. Quite something.
Well done Giles - you done good.
