Studio AKA director Steve Small has designed and directed a refreshingly charming hand-drawn ident to precede ITV1's upcoming Royal Season of TV programmes which trail the Diamond Jubilee

Before the more cynical of our readers start reaching for the 'meh' button, just imagine how awful this could have been – it's for the Diamond Jubilee! Just think about how much awful junk is already going round to tie in with that happy event. And it's for ITV1 - not exactly universally renowned as the home of great creative work.

Instead, Small's hand-drawn, colour washed design has something of 60s Ealing era film titles about it, perhaps even of the late great Ronald Searle in its many curlicues. Whatever, it's unexpectedly fun, if very short.

Searle was actually the first thing that came to my mind when I saw this - and that's not a bad thing!
Agreed this could have been Daily Expresstastic and we have had a lucky escape.

I like it. Could have done with a little less pink however. And I agree - imagine what it could have been, especially from ITV.

I am a cynic and I actually like this.
The ITV branding shouldn't have been changed that is my only gripe about it.
As the softer illustration would have married quite nicely with the hardness of the ITV logo.
That is all.

I love it, I would not have expected this from ITV at all. More expecting an only way is essex theme but they actually did something nice. Hats off to them!

Hmm! It seems as though ITV are blowing a right royal raspberry at the monarchy in a St.Trinians way. Is pink the queens favourite colour?
