Record sleeves of the month
Having not posted a record sleeve roundup last month, we've got a handful of great music packages to show you this week, with releases from The Horrors, Dutch Uncles, Yo La Tengo, Julia Kent, and more...
The Horrors are set to release a limited edition boxed set of remixed versions of tracks from their last album, Skying (the artwork for which appeared in one of our record sleeve roundups back in August 2011). The package, entitled Higher, features cover versions, reworkings and remixes from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Connan Mockasin, Seahawks and more.
It consists of a matt laminated slipcase with a spot gloss and foiled spine contains an inner box that can be removed by a handy ribbon:
The inner box houses five marble-effect sleeves which, between them, contain four 12" vinyl records, two CDs and one DVD.
The various marbled artworks displayed on the various sleeves within the package are by Leif Podhajksy. Design: Alison Fielding. Higher is set for release on XL Recordings on March 24. You can pre-order copies here.

The Electric Information Age Album (cover of the LP, shown above) is actually an audio addendum to The Electric Information Age Book by Jeffrey T. Schnapp and Adam Michaels (Princeton Architectural Press, £14.99, shown below). The book explores a nine year period beginning in 1966 when various designers, graphic artists, editors, coordinators and producers created a set of "exceptional paperback books", the first of which was The Medium is the Massage by Marshall McLuhan, Quentin Fiore and Jerome Agel.
The accompanying LP was apparrently produced (by authors Schnapp and Michaels along with Daniel Perlin) in a spirit similar to that of The Medium is the Massage LP, the experimental 1967 audio recording based on media theorist Marshall Mcluhan's groundbreaking book of the same name. It incorporates new music drawing on a wide range of genres including post-punk, mutant disco, baile funk, and Chicago juke, along with samples and quotations from the Electric Information Age Book.
The LP sleeve, designed by NYC studio Project Projects, is die cut to reveal the central vinyl label and is screenprinted on the front (shown above) and letterpress printed on the reverse:

Next up is the irredescent LP cover for Yo La Tengo's new album, Fade, which features photographs by Carlie Armstrong on the front and back cover (detail of the back cover shown, below).
The LP's inner sleeve (above) features handwritten sleeve notes plus a drawing by Roscoe Finkel, the 3rd place winner of a Draw Yo La Tengo competition held late last year. The LP also comes with a bonus 7inch record. Design: Mark Ohe. Label: Matador.
Last but not least, Cellist Julia Kent's third solo album, Character, is due out early next month and we love the artwork (by Luke Drozd) that wraps around the six-panel, triple gatefold CD format copy we were sent by The Leaf Label. Above is the front cover and below is the back:
