Nice work (some with a festive flavour)

Apple Mac ads; Agency: TBWA\Media Arts Lab; Creatives: Chuck Monn, Jason Sperling, Alicia Dotter; Director: Drew Lightfoot; Production company: LAIKA/house

It’s the last Friday before Christmas, you’re probably all drunk, but in case any of you are looking for a way to while away some time, here is a selection of the great work we’ve received recently at CR. First up is the latest spot from Apple, which sees the PC and Mac guys appearing in animated form.

Selected Drawings: James Jarvis

Hat

As any fan of James Jarvis’ vinyl toys and comic books will know, the artist is a stickler for detail and this obsession with getting things just right is certainly part of the charm of his work. Of the many drawings brought together in this, his first book of selected work from 2002–2007 (published by Amos) it’s fascinating to see how his eye fixates on the precise way that a cravat is tied, how a buckle on a policeman’s jacket fastens or, even, how a crow might sport a top hat. And, my, how it sports it well.

Design at the Centre of the new London Transport Museum

Roundel 1925
Part of a drawing by Edward Johnston of the iconic London Underground roundel and bar, known as the
“bullseye design”, that forms part of the design gallery at the newly opened London Transport Museum

The London Transport Museum has recently opened its doors to visitors once again and CR was lucky enough to have a good look around. Of particular interest is the new design gallery which, if its placing in the middle of the museum is anything to go by, now takes centre stage among the tube trains and buses that fill up the floor space. Design, it seems, has always been at the very heart of London Transport and this is now something the new-look museum aims to celebrate wholeheartedly.
